Joop Sanders came to this country in 1939 at the age of 17 from the Netherlands. He studied at the Art Students League and later exhibited in the “Ninth Street Show”, the subsequent Stable Annuals, and at the Tanager Gallery. In 1955 he left for Europe and stayed for one year on Mallorca and two years in Holland. During his stay abroad he exhibited in Paris, London, several places in Holland, as well as in Belgium and Rome.
After the current show at the Stuttman Gallery, he will have a one-man exhibition at the Stadelijk Museum of Amsterdam – one of the most active and important museum of modern art in Western Europe. Works of Mr. Sanders are in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum, the Municipal Museum of The Hague, and the Bezalel National Museum of Jerusalem, Israel.
